Customer Review: The Right Bowls For My Kitchen

When I moved into my house, I went a little crazy buying stuff for my dream kitchen. While I'd lived in houses, even technically owned houses before, this was the first home I picked for myself, and I think this lead to imagining a Martha Stewart vision of myself. So, I bought dishes, and pots and pans, and bake wear that fit this fantasy. Some of it worked out and some didn't. What seems perfect in a catalog or in a store can perform differently when put into use in an actual kitchen.
One of my early purchases was mixing bowls. Really heavy mixing bowls. They looked like something from an earlier generation, and that appealed to me. For the past several years, every time I've needed one of those bowls, I'd stood on tiptoe to reach them and braced myself for the weight. My grandmother, who lives with us, had a hard time handling them as well. With my new kitchen island, I've eliminated the tiptoe thing, and now -- with these new OXO bowls -- I've eliminated the other issue.
I like that the colors are still in line with the look I like and remind me of my childhood and bowls passed down from an even earlier generation than that. They have a modern light-weight feel though, and are made not to skid. The heavier bowls can stay up on the high shelf in the cabinet -- I've found the bowls I can use daily. Yesterday I marinated chicken drumsticks in the large bowl and today I might try a test run of a cupcake recipe I want to use for Valentine's Day.
In the end, what I craved when I bought the original kitchen supplies was a sense of home and belonging -- consumerism and advertising at its best. However, practical supplies for a working, functioning kitchen -- supplies that help produce nutritious and delicious meals -- do a better job of making home a reality.
