The old design of locking tongs had a ring that would fall over and prevent the tongs from opening. The design flaw is that the ring is not held up when the tongs are in use so the ring would plop over and lock the tongs on its own. These tongs are an improvement in that the locking mechanism is pull up. I would prefer that the nylon heads had a higher temperture tolerance.Customer Review: Cookie

My wife needed tongs with nylon heads. we had been looking for them while shopping different stores. Just happened to mention Amazon to her, and we took a look.
This item was just what she was looking for. They will not scratch the surface of
any pot and can be locked. She uses them in non-stick pots. They worked just as advertised.

These tongs are easy to handle, just the right length for control and will not scrape non-stick surfaces. They are really handy for turning hard to gripe items over on hot surfaces.....they were a great addition to my kitchen tools.
