Kitchen and Housewares Reviews of OXO Good Grips Corn Stripper

Customer Review: Great for fresh corn!
Summary: 5 Stars

I had gone to Williams Sonoma to get their corn stripper only to find they were out and they suggested this one to me and its even better than the WS one I was going to get. I make a recipe that requires fresh corn on the cob and you have to strip it from the cob- I can't tell you how quick and handy this item makes that. You still have to be careful as you can cut yourself if you use it in the wrong direction, but its pretty fool proof and holds 1/2 cup or so of corn at a time. The best part is, you can strip several corn rows at a time and go back over it if you don't get it all. I love any gadget that makes my cooking a little easier. With this thing, I make fresh sauteed corn all the time. Great item!

I'm glad I read other people's comments about how sharp the blades are. I had no problems at all, but it pays to be careful taking it apart when you are first using it - I can see how carelessness could be painful. We have access to a wonderful farmstand next to a cornfield, so we get absolutely fresh corn in season, and always stock up the freezer. This made this year's supply go so fast it was amazing.
We parboil the corn on the cob before we strip it to freeze, and the half-cooked kernels practically leapt off the cobs.

Customer Review: Does a good job! Fast and less mess!

I agree that the cutter is sharp. I nicked my fingers a couple of times before I figured out the best way to use it. After blanching and cooling the corn, hold the ear at one end and strip the corn from the middle to the other end all the way around. Turn the ear around and strip the other end of the corn. Starting in the middle keeps your fingers away from the cutter.

This corn stripper does a very nice job and produces a lot less mess than the wooden strippers.

Customer Review: corn stripper
Summary: 5 Stars

I really love this thing! There is not such a mess in taking the corn off the cob and having it go everywhere. I just get a tiny bit accumulated and it doesn't splash everywhere, it stays in one place. I think it's very easy to clean and I put it in the dishwasher. The only thing is that it does take a bit of practice as I sometimes need to go down the cob again. You need to keep it close to the cob. But for me, this is a really great kitchen tool.

Customer Review: Finally one that works!
Summary: 5 Stars

I had tried 3 other types of corn strippers and they all sent corn flying across the room. Not only that, they were hard to use. This one is the bomb! Corn comes off the cob easily and without mess and stays right in there until you dump it out. Clean up is simple and effortless. It also has measurements on it in case you're using it for a recipe. I highly recommend this product to everyone who likes their corn off the cob.
