Kitchen and Housewares Reviews of OXO Good Grips LiquiSeal Travel Mug, Stainless Steel

Customer Review: Keeps coffee hot for hours, 1 handed use, no leaks
Summary: 5 Stars

This travel mug has several key features:
1) Thermal - its insulated interior keeps coffee very hot, comparable to some of my more expensive mugs

2) One handed operation - Click away - click to open, click to close - can be done with a finger. I had a mug I loved that had the typical slide opening, after 2 years of hard use it would slide closed every time I tilted it to take a drink, that's not a possibility with this

3) Spill-proof - remember to click it closed and when you slam on your brakes and it goes flying, you won't have anything to worry about except how to retrieve it so you can keep drinking - 1 caveat, after drinking give it a little shake before clicking it closed to push down any residual liquid in the top

4) Leak-proof - couple caveats here - don't overfill (leave at least 1" from the inner black rim) and make sure the cap is tight

5) Durable - I wash it in the dishwasher w/o problems and have dropped it onto tile without problems

6) Easy to clean - I had a problem with dried coffee accruing on the underside of the slide on other mugs, this mug is very easy to clean (clean it in the open position)

7) easy to hold - a slight recess towards top of the mug gives a nice place to comfortably grip the mug

Cons: The metal has stained/discolored slightly after 8 months of daily

Customer Review: Great mug - Poor cleanability (hope this helps)
Summary: 5 Stars

I really love these mugs for their ability to retain the heat. Didn't like the fact that the sip got smaller and smaller within a couple of weeks. After soaking the top overnight I noticed some small globs of old coffee in the bowl. At this point I had to take it apart. After tinkering with it for awhile,I broke the first one. Since I had two of them I took a more deliberate approach.

Actually there are 2 things that you can do to aid in cleaning these cups. The first, is to remove the cap on the clicker thus revealing a screw that allows the sealing plunger to be removed. Don't be too surprised at the sludge that you will see inside the lid. The amount of goop that collects is really amazing. After cleaning as much as I could from here, I noticed a tab near the top of the drink path. This tab stops even the smallest brush from passing through the channel. I was able to remove this with a small screwdriver then smooth the area with an exacto knife. Now the entire drink path can be cleaned. I am using a brush that was made for cleaning baby bottles. Dr. Brown's Natural Flow Cleaning Brush, 4 Pack available here on Amazon for $4.49.

The cup now stays clean just by rinsing. An added plus is after removing the tab, you can now get good amount of coffee to come out, instead of the tiny sip that the tab restriction was allowing.

Customer Review: Very satisfied
Summary: 5 Stars

This is my second OXO travel coffee mug. My first one was the blue colored plastic one. I was very satisfied with that, especially with the leak proof system. I always thought that mug was 4 stars. When I bought this stainless steel mug, I didn't realise that the vaccum between the inner and outer layes is such a big deal. This mug is a much bigger step in the right direction in keeping the contents hot for at least another hour more in comparison to the blue plastic mug that I had. The exterior of this mug doesn't get warm at all. Unbelievable. Even the cap doesn't get warm. The only thing that gets slightly warm is the black sleeve like ring that you have between the black cap and the stainless steel container. That's just a little warm and the heat will be lost from there. If that part can be made heat proof, this product is just going to be awesome and truly deserves a 5 star. Right now I wanted to give a 4.5 stars but since there isn't that option, I'm giving it a 5 star. I would say the blue one that I had before would be downgraded to 3.25 stars. You can't go wrong with this stainless steel travel mug with vaccum. Cleaning the cap is just a bit tricky. But once you rinse it as soon as you finish your coffee, it's no big deal. I will anyday live with a little discomfort while cleaning than put up with spills and substandard insulations.

Customer Review: IT DOES ITS JOB REALLY WELL.
Summary: 5 Stars

I was skeptical about this mug and thought it was too expensive for what it is but I have no regrets in getting it. I loved it almost immediately and was going to write a review right away after trying it out but then waited until I had been on the road with it in my fiance's lifted truck. I've always had a problem with drinking in the car (even though I'm not the one driving) but I was pleasantly hydrated with the aid of the mug's lid. The shape of the lip makes it easy to drink out of slowly (to test the temperature of the beverage) without burning my mouth. It keeps my drinks hot long enough for me to drink them while on the go. I don't believe it was designed to stay hot for too long since it really shouldn't take you forever to enjoy a drink. If that's what you're looking for, check out the vacuum insulated nissan thermos. That type of mug will certainly keep drinks hot for HOURS. I use that mug if I know that I will need a hot drink later on, rather than at the moment. Going back to the Click and & Seal Travel Mug, the no-drip button works as it should. There might be some remaining liquid in the upper part but there's no escaping that. Liquid passes through as you drink and it's like trying to escape air if you want it to be completely dry (especially right after having taken a sip). I think it's a great mug and I highly recommend it!

Customer Review: Review after a year's use
Summary: 5 Stars

I've used this mug nearly everyday for the past year. There has been no leak so far and it still looks as good as new! The vacuum seal effectively keeps the contents contained at the desired temperature. I never worry about a drop of tea or coffee getting on my books or clothes when I let it tumble around at the bottom of my backpack or gym bag. As long as I keep the top in closed position, the tea stays piping hot for 5-6 hours, although not as hot as it was at the time filled. The design is oh-so sleek. I've been asked where I bought the mug. 14 oz. is the perfect amount of caffeine to keep me alert throughout the morning. I also appreciate the wide circumference of the mug that lets me stick my hand in and clean it with a sponge. This is a trait that a lot of insulated travel mugs lack. This is a heavy-duty travel mug made for serious caffeine enthusiasts, perfect for city slickers and students.

One thing to keep in mind that others have already mentioned: if you leave the top in closed position while you're screwing it on, steam has nowhere to escape and you'll end up either getting a leak or ruining the seal from physically forcing the top to screw on. That means leakage with subsequent filling. If you want to keep the mug for long-term use, for the love of God, don't ruin the seal.
