Kitchen and Housewares Reviews of OXO Good Grips LiquiSeal Travel Mug, Stainless Steel

Customer Review: Serious Coffee Portability
Summary: 5 Stars

I. Love, love, LOVE. This. Mug. I got it to replace an old Aladdin model I'd been relying on for years. I was prepared, after reading the reviews here, for a lid that was even worse than that mangy old mug I already had. Sure, the lid on this Oxo has a tendency to get a little gummed up, but that's nothing a little vinegar and baking soda with a bottle brush can't keep up with. Even if the lid is kind of a pain to keep clean, IT DOESN'T LEAK. At all. And this has changed my life, fellow Amazon shoppers.

I can throw this bad boy in my purse with no unfortunate consequences. It can roll around in my car all day long. The mug keeps the coffee warm enough to finish the whole thing, and with one of these mugs full of espresso in each hand, I could jog all the way up Mount Evans. If I wanted to. It even fits in my car's cupholder, which until now had always appeared to be designed to only hold beer bottles.

If you can't go a moment without your coffee, this is the mug for you.

Customer Review: How to Clean
Summary: 5 Stars

I've had this travel mug for 6 months and absolutely love it. It's incredibly durable and the seal is like Ft. Knox. My cupholders are very shallow, and this mug flies all over the place without incidence. It does not leak unless you screw the top on un-evenly.

The best way I've found to clean it is as follows:

1. Put a couple drops of dish soap in it (equal parts vinegar and water would work well if you were scaranoid about build-up in the valve).

2. Add hot water.

3. Put the top on with the valve closed, and shake it like you're making your favorite martini.

4. Open the valve and pour all the hot, soapy water out.

5. Repeat with cold water a couple times.

6. Make sure when you set it out to dry, you leave the valve open so all the water that's in the top can drain out and evaporate. You don't want mildew growing in there.

By the next morning, you're good to go.

Customer Review: spillproof/ figured how to clean lid
Summary: 5 Stars

I've had my mug since 2006 with no problems! This was such a good investment that put my phone number on it in case I leave it someplace! I bought this item after an accident that ruined my Mac Computer. It's still absolutely spill proof after years of use. I don't taste any "plastic" in my drink. I've figured out how to clean the lid. I hold the button down full force and there's enough room to clean the disk. Additionally, I run baking soda through it. I've had no mold or odor problems. Last year the OXO plastic label came off so I unscrewed the lid and there was no mold inside. I put it in the dishwasher with no problems- but not on heated dry. True, it does not stay really hot as long as I would like it (3 hours max)..but spill proof was my main criteria. I don't really ever let things sit that long, so has never affected me. It was a best buy. I have the model in plastic too. It only stays hot for 1 hour and warm for the next 1.5 hours. Get the stainless steel.

Customer Review: Best Travel Mug -- NEVER LEAKS
Summary: 5 Stars

I just bought our 4th Oxo travel mug.

I test them every morning by pouring 192* coffee into them and then holding them upside down and shaking them..never a leak...well, one exception.

Be careful if you use them for soup, I managed to miss a small piece of noodle stuck under the seal one morning and did get leaks until I cleaned it out.

Do NOT EVER EVER put these in the dishwasher.

But otherwise, this is the perfect travel mug. Wish they had a handle, but oh well. At least they do not leak and will keep liquids hot for hours.

Oxo also makes one in plastic that is just as leakproof & half the price, BUT...those do not maintain the temperature for anywhere near the same amount of time.

Our oldest mug is now about 2 years old and is still being used daily with no problems.

Definitely worth the 20 bucks (or 15 if you buy four 19.99 items during Amazon's 4 for 3 specials!

Customer Review: Travels well - no leaks
Summary: 5 Stars

I took this on an extended road trip and used it for both hot and cold drinks, most of the time it ended up rolling back and forth on the passenger comparment floor. At the last stop I filled it with cold water and threw it into the trunk while getting my car cleaned inside and out.
Well, frankly, I forgot about it and it bounced around my car trunk for a couple of months and when I went to salvage it and drain the water out, I observed that not one drop had leaked out.

Not only did the seal hold the liquid in and keep the crud out, but when I was actively using it the beverages stayed hot or cold for most of the day.

This is a handy travel mug because it fits in the cupholder of most cars and if not, it can roll around on the floor or car seat and still not spill anything. The one handed operation of this mug is ideal for road warriors: cell phone in one hand, mug in the other, one knee on the steering wheel! :)
