Kitchen and Housewares Reviews of OXO Good Grips LiquiSeal Travel Mug, Stainless SteelCustomer Review: A great mug! Summary: 5 Stars
This mug was so worth its price. Here are some comments:
1) I make 4 cups (as indicated on the machine) worth of coffee in the morning and then spend hours drinking it. The best thing about this mug is that it will keep the coffee at least moderately warm until well into the afternoon. If you pre-heat (which I don't), it probably would keep it even warmer.
2) I have found that it will leak a little if you don't follow certain precautions: Don't overfill it (leave at least 1/2" at the top (where the black meets the silver) and leave the top in the open position when you screw it on--otherwise it might compress the liquid and spurt out later). Also, it will leak if there's any "backwash" from a recent sip in the lid mechanism.
3) The directions say "do not place in the dishwasher," but I put it in the dishwasher every night with no obvious ill effect. (I don't use heated dry.)
Customer Review: The perfect travel mug - or as close as I've found. Summary: 5 Stars
I originally had the plastic version of this mug and was a bit skeptical of reviews saying the steel model was noticeably superior. But it truly is a better mug. The coffee stays warm longer than any other mug I've used, and the lid design is quite a bit better on the steel version. When it's sealed properly (and not overfilled), it won't spill a drop, no matter what kind of abuse you put it through.
My whole family are now addicted to these mugs. One caveat: As some reviewers have noted, the lid is not easy to clean (and neither part should go in the dishwasher, ever). But this only seems to be a real issue if you use cream in your coffee. Even then, it hasn't seemed to bother most of my relatives who use cream.
In summary, this is a great mug, and definitely worth paying the extra bucks for the steel model.
Customer Review: Best Travel Mug Ever! Summary: 5 Stars
This mug is the only truly leak-proof one I've every owned. I can twist it closed, press the button on top, and lay it down on the car seat next to me. I have also placed it sideways in the bottom of my attache case. No problem! My only, very minor, criticism is that the sipping hole is rather small and doesn't allow me to gulp a big swallow of coffee when I'm on the run. (This is probably better for the health of my stomach.) It also keeps the coffee hot for hours! I have a 40 minute commute and usually drink a cup before I leave home, so I often don't drink from the mug until I reach work. It will still burn my tongue if I'm not careful.
Don't bother with the competition (especially the one that begins with "N"). All of them leak and none keep the coffee hot any longer than the OXO.
Customer Review: Best cup in the World Summary: 5 Stars
This in the greatest travel mug I have ever owned! I often have an armful of books, so I just pop my mug in my purse to free up a hand; it doesn't leak a bit. I use this travel mug constantly, even if I am just staying home, because it keeps things hot for at least two hours. The only downfall that I can find about this cup is that the lid is hard to clean thoroughly. Coffee (or your beverage of choice) can get trapped inside of the lid and get gross after a while. All you have to do, though, is make sure you run hot water into the drink hole while the button is in the closed position. This flushes out any residue. This is the closest thing I have found to a perfect travel mug - and it does come surprisingly close to being perfect. Once you own this mug you will never want to use anything else.
Customer Review: Best coffe mug ever Summary: 5 Stars
This coffee mug is the best I've owned in my 30 years of drinking coffee. I like it because:
- Lid screws off making cleaning cap/filling mug easy
- When cup is sealed, contents can be vigorously shaken rather than stirred (James Bond would be proud) no stir sticks required!
- In drinking configurationa, allows hot contents to be sampled without burning lips
- Sturdy aluminum cup has endured the rough combat environment with only superficial scars--functions perfectly
- Excellent thermal qualities keep contents hot (cold?) for extended periods
Other considerations:
- Not suitable for microwave use
- Recommend a cute plastic artsy/fartsy Starbucks mug for domestic use
Rock on... and stuff
