I bought this teakettle about two years ago, and even though it took quite a large flame to get it to whistle, I was extremely happy with its ergonomics.
About three weeks ago, in the midst of a raging headcold, I put a kettle of water on to boil for tea, sat down in a very comfortable chair, and, under the spell of nighttime cold medicine, promptly fell asleep. When I woke up, all the water had boiled out of the kettle and it was blazing hot. The plastic handle on the lid had melted where it met the metal of the lid.
After attempting to glue it back on using epoxy (didn't work), I wrote Oxo Customer Service to buy a new handle. Martha wrote me back asking if my kettle was brushed or polished stainless steel, which I thought was rather odd. Imagine my surprise when I received an entire new lid in the mail, at no charge!
Needless to say, if I need kitchen implements in the future (like the spatula I'm about to buy), you get one guess which brand I will ALWAYS consider first.
