Kitchen and Housewares Reviews of OXO Good Grips Pop-Up SteamerCustomer Review: Metal too coarse Summary: 2 Stars
I would be very happy with it if the metal is not so coarse... Other all seems fine. Not sure if the rubble grips will smell during steaming though because I never used it - I had to return it because no matter how much I would enjoy it, I don't want to hurt myself or my family. This brand seems to be a decent one among the same products. Kindly hope OXO will pay attention to polishing the metal.
Customer Review: Too Big for Small/Medium Pots! Summary: 1 Stars
I thought this sounded great and we've had success with Oxo products in the past, so we bought it to replace a steamer basket that broke.
Unfortunately, it's just too big! I wanted a basket with higher legs so our steamed veggies wouldn't be boiled instead of steamed. However, the legs are too high to let it fit in our 8" 2.5 qt saucepan. It won't even fit in our 12" 4 qt saucepan! The post in the middle sounds good, but it is also really in the way.
I'd only suggest buying this if you use LARGE pots on a regular basis. We are a family of 4 so we don't use a huge pot for steaming veggies. Only our large pasta pot is big enough to use this.
To get this to work at all for us I took the legs off, straightened them out, and then bent them into a U shape. That ended up taking about 1/2" off the leg height, so it's now short enough to fit in our pans. However, the center post is still in the way. I'd really recommend finding a different steamer basket.
Customer Review: Beware of the pop up handle Summary: 1 Stars
I bought this without a second thought on the OXO name. I have a dozen or so of their products and am generally happy with the quality. This OXO steamer is definitely an exception to that rule. I use this to steam my baby's food. Basically, I use a steamer 3-4 times a week so it gets used heavily. The 'pop' up handle broke after 4 weeks and it will not stay down in the low position. The handle is spring loaded so it basically useless at this point because i cannot put a lid on top of the pot. I would stay away from this product and go with a more practical steamer.
