I never knew that these "Y peelers" existed until recently. After watching some cooking videos I saw how easy they made the peeling seem. Did some research, and bought this OXO last week.
After 1 week I have to say that this peeler is great. I've peeled everything in the house including my fingernail. The blade is sharp, watch out. It also slices the side of a cheese block perfectly. The cheese is a little thin, but just throw two slices on there and your good.
The handle is wide and allows you to have a firm solid grip. The blade swivels. The "eyer" is not sharp so soft fruits or vegetables gets a little smashed (tomatoes). And yes I was peeling the the skin off tomatoes. It works.
Bottom Line: Works great, feels great. Peeling is 100 times easier over those side peelers. Construction feels solid. Good quality. $12 well spent. Seems like a great gift too for those wannabe Gordon Ramseys out there like me.

You get what you pay for, but ten dollars is a small investment for such a useful kitchen tool. Make the investment - you won't regret it, and will wonder why you waited so long. I'd been using a cheap peeler that came in a set of kitchen tools and found peeling potatoes painful, difficult, and time-consuming. What a world of difference with the Oxo peeler! It makes quick, easy, and effortless work out of peeling potatoes, even sweet potatoes, which are more difficult to peel. The blade is extremely sharp and glides over the vegetable with ease, removing the perfect amount of peel. Try it on a mango - you'll be amazed at how perfectly it peels off the skin without wasting any of the flesh of the fruit. I've also used it to peel carrots, broccoli, zucchini, apples, butternut squash, all with success. However, I plan to also purchase the swivel peeler, which is more appropriate for items such as carrots.Customer Review: Soooo easy!

I am SO THRILLED to have this peeler. It makes peeling potatoes, carrots, etc SO EASY. I had one of those old peelers you used back in the day which clogged up and scraped your knuckles every so often. But with this little peeler, it's a BREEZE!! It's actually FUN to use because it's smooth and quick and it WORKS!! (yes, that's shock in my voice because I'm not used to things doing what they claim). Since this purchase (along with a set of knives purchased from somewhere else), my husband has happily taken on the role as the official prep-chef of the house and I love that he enjoys helping me in the kitchen. Unlike me, he doesn't enjoy the actual cooking process, but he's really getting into the peeling, chopping, etc parts -- and hey, I'll take all the help I can get! Having used Oxo's reliable, ever-sharp Good Grips potato peelers for more than ten years, I decided to buy Oxo's I-Series Y Peeler when my wrists began to grow weaker.
Using Oxo's Y Peeler this morning, I prepared a rutabaga effortlessly without a wrist twinge. Those hard, waxy peelings rolled off my rutabaga as if I were using a safety razor to shave my legs. The feather-light wrist actions required to use this vegetable peeler are identical.
Until the holidays, I'll use it as an neat cheese slicer, and for grating hard chocolate blocks. It's a perfectly-designed, ergonomic, multi-use kitchen tool!
I would even recommend it for use by stroke or accident victims who gamely share in family cooking chores, when they have one usuable hand and an opposite, steadying wrist or elbow.

7 STARS ! Having been a Head Chef (4 STAR Hotel) in a previous life, I know the benefits of using a highly efficient tool to make a boring repetitive task bearable. After thoroughly researching the market, I came a cross this little beauty. It even makes peeling spuds - FUN ! Shush ! don't tell anyone I said that, as I don't want to be thought of as SAD. It does its job superbly well, and is a joy to use.
When something exceeds your expectations by a country mile, then it must be really good. BUY IT NOW, you won't regret it. Its svelte girlfriend, the i-Series Swivel Peeler, is also superb, and is also a BUY IT NOW !
If you buy both, you will make them very happy, as they can then canoodle together in the drawer in the dark !
