This can opener was very nice to have the first couple of years. No more sharp edges. But, two years later, it is ready for the trash can. It now leaves those tiny metal shards around the edges of the can. I even got one stuck in my finger-I certainly don't want any stuck in my mouth (or in my family's). Even when the can opener was operating properly, sometimes you still needed to go around the can a few times to finally break the seal. That was annoying, but tolerable in comparison to having a sharp edge to deal with.
Time to go can opener shopping again.

This can opener worked very well for my husband and me until recently. After three years it gave up. With a lot of force and manly gripping my husband was able to open its last can. The smooth edge feature was nice, but I think that is why it lived such a short life. The little pincers on the side are necessary for getting the can lids off after you cut, because there is glue keeping the can together still. The grip is nice on the handle and the twister. We did not buy this model to replace it, we got the zyliss can opener.Customer Review: Bulky can opener

I received this can opener as a gift and love the idea of no sharp edges on the can opener or the cans when opened. But, if you are limited on storage space save $5 and buy Kuhn Rikon's Kuhn Rikon Auto Safety Lid Lifter, Red Auto Safety Lid Lifter which is slimmer but has excellent reviews and color choices. This OXO can opener is bulky and can be a pain to put away in our shallow drawers.Customer Review: note: need to flip over Asian food cans (ex. Chaokoh) to open them

This can opener is ingenious indeed. It took me several tries before realizing that I needed to flip over some cans that the opener at first seemed unable to open, such as Chaokoh coconut milk. That's why I rated it only 3 stars at first; if I could edit that rating now, then I'd give it 4 stars. Overall the opener does an excellent job in removing lids quickly and safely, though it takes a few tries to get the hang of lifting the cut can lids off against the suction.Customer Review: Great ONLY for the round cans...

I actually bought the opener from Bed Bath & Beyond. It looks nice, and opening a round can is amazingly smooth. The cut edge doesn't hurt me at all. However, a few days ago I tried it on a can that's in the shape of the 400-meter Olympic running track... It just didn't work at all on the linear part of the edge because it has to turn during cutting. So, think carefully before you buy it and get only round cans thereafter....
