Kitchen and Housewares Reviews of OXO Good Grips Smooth Edge Can OpenerCustomer Review: Sleek 'n Easy Summary: 5 Stars
Not only does this can opener look cool, its fairly easy to use. Actually, its so easy, it seems complicated! When I first opened it, I wasn't sure how to use it. Since the packaging actually had a can lid attached to it the can opener (clever!), I was able to figure it out quite quickly and you don't even think you're cutting through anything, but bam! its done with no sharp edges. I remember reading another's review and saw the tiny little pinchers on the left side of the opener and sure enough, that little feature is quite nice as it lifts the lid off easier than grabbing it with clumsy fingers!
We'll see how long this lasts...I see other reviewers had problems with this opener down the road. I may add to this if I come across any issues, then!
Customer Review: Truely a kichen mate Summary: 5 Stars
I got this few weeks back and I got dipressed at the first use of this without reading it's user manual. And thought of returning to Amazon thinking that this is a defective one. Then my wife asked me to give a second try and shoed me the tiny little manual which came with that to read and follow the instruction as given.
Guess what, it was amazing, even if you cut the edge of a tin it will not break untill u pull it out using the other tip of the cutter. And it's so neat we just loved it. No chance of a sharp edge after cutting. It helps a lot and very smooth cutting while got a nice grip to hold and turn it around the tin.
I am going to buy couple more for my parents and sister.
Every kichen should have one of this........
Customer Review: very good Summary: 5 Stars
This opener effortlessly cuts the lids on the side. The only problem is that when you use the built in gripper to pull the lid off you will splash some liquid contents when the lid gives way when you are pulling on it. I use a screw driver blade pressed into the cut slot and then rotated to remove the lid without splashing any soup. More solid contents do not splash when the built in lid gripper is used and the lid suddenly gives way as you are pulling on it.
After using this for a year it does not spill soup anymore. I am not sure if the cutting of the lid is getting better or if my arm motion of pealing off the lid by rotating the opener towards the can center instead of pulling upward is doing the trick.
Customer Review: 18 months later...still going strong Summary: 5 Stars
I try to hold off on my reviews for kitchen products because I really want to make sure the durability is there. Back in February 2007, when I bought this can opener, I was very skeptical of the product's claims to room lids and leave behind smooth edges.
Now, 18 months later, I can give this can opener a 5-star review.
Here's my quick thoughts:
1. The can opener requires some practice to get the hang of it.
2. You'll likely spill a little of the can's contents at first.
3. It is easy to hold and even easier to clean.
4. It is a little bulky, so it doesn't fit in our silverware drawer.
5. The can opener works as good today as the first day it arrived.
Customer Review: Best can opener, hands down Summary: 5 Stars
At our house we open cans. We have to open many cans. And that is why we have a Zans, er, Good Grips Smooth Edge Can Opener from Oxo. Until I bought this, I'd only used the piercing kind. When I wanted a replacement for the last one, I was on the lookout for an opener with a soft handle, and I wanted to try a smooth edge opener. The first time I tried to open a can with this, I failed miserably. Then I read the pamphlet that came with the device and it was a miracle! There is a small trick that makes the opener more effective--place the edge of the can between the two wheels, and then bend the handle slightly down. This holds the edge more firmly between the wheels, and can opens better.
