Kitchen and Housewares Reviews of OXO Good Grips Smooth Edge Can OpenerCustomer Review: Innovation at it's best Summary: 5 Stars
At first, I was concerned that this was just a gimmick...
In reality - there is not a better, more effective way to open cans, and I would not switch back, ever!
Pros:
Clean, safe removal of lids from cans
No sharp can edges, no sharp lid edges
Smooth action
Ergonomic handle and grip
good heft
No kitchen bags ripped by sharp can parts
Cons:
None - other than it works so well - sometimes it's hard to know you've fully opened the can!
Customer Review: Love it! Summary: 5 Stars
It blows my mind that people take up valuable counter space with an electric model, not to mention the $$$ aspect. This is a great can opener; it's small, easy to turn, and doesn't leave sharp edges. The only drawback is that in order to pull off the top of the can, you have to use these really small prongs on the opener's side to pry the lid off...it's not hard, but I think the designers could have made the mini-prongs a little bigger. Other than that small complaint, I'm quite happy with it, and I highly recommend.
Customer Review: Comfortable to handle, easy to use Summary: 5 Stars
Sure, there's a learning curve ;)
Opening the first can was not without profanity. Once you 'get it' its easy as can be. Just read the instructions quickly... or stubbornly maintain that you "know how to use a can opener!" and struggle for a bit. The built in pinchers work nicely. and the smooth lid that comes off would make a great base for all sorts of kids' crafting projects.
This was on my Amazon wish list, but I ended up buying it at Target because I needed on NOW, not later.
Customer Review: Solid Summary: 5 Stars
I thought this might be a flimsy piece of plastic.
Well, It is mostly plastic but it is solid, I have opened at least a dozen cans including the tiny tomato paste cans and it works very smoothly and efficiently. I have used this type of opener before and this puts the others to shame. I have not used those safety openers that cost forty bucks but I almost ordered one and I am glad I chose this one. Almost effortless to use. Would probably work well for someone with bad hands or arthritis.
Customer Review: It's Tricky to rock around!!! Summary: 5 Stars
I have had this for a year and I have never found a better can opener. It's morre effective then most electric opners, unless you want to go comercial. It took a couple of tries to get the hang of it but I've never had a problem since then.
With all the praise said, I did get one for my parents and they can't figure it out at all. If the standard mechanics of how a can opener works are too ingrained in your genetics then you might want to skip this one. Otherwise you'll love it.
