Kitchen and Housewares Reviews of OXO Good Grips Stainless Food Scale with Pull-Out Display

Customer Review: Wildy Erratic Overpriced Piece of Rubbish
Summary: 1 Stars

I was so excited when I read the reviews of the Oxo Good Grips Food Scale with Pull-Out Display here on Amazon. I have been looking for a scale that will weigh in grams and ounces for weighing out beads and findings, or very small amounts of spices and foods.

This scale is very thin, the pull-out display works great, and it it easy to store.

Big Deal.

I mean, this scale is so horrible that I could not BELIEVE that everyone that reviewed this never had a problem with this scale.

I got out beads and tried to weigh one gram of beads. I weighed the same exact beads literally over and over about 60 times and only three times did I get the same exact weight. And that was only when the weight got up into the 10 gm range. The rest of the time the weight was wildly erratic.

1 gram of beads went from three small seed beads to 230 beads. It was almost inconceivable that a scale of this large price range could be so horrible to use. I have never been so disappointed in a purchase before based upon such positive reviews.

If I could give this NO STARS I would.

I am returning this piece of junk and still upset that it is so defective. I don't trust another scale again from this company after this.

The Tare function is erratic as well- one minute it zeros out and then the next minute it is in the negative and then it suddenly goes into the positive- all without being touched, knocked or altered in any way.

There has to be another scale out there for this price range that will actually be accurate and weigh things. I have visions of crying women weighing in at Weight Watchers not able to figure out how they could gain weight when they carefully weighed EVERYTHING they ate.

*shakes head*

I am really unhappy with this whole thing.

Customer Review: died within a month of purchase
Summary: 1 Stars

I bought this scale for my kitchen at home and an Escali primo for weighing portions at work. The Escali is still going strong, but the OXO died after less than a month. Replacing the batteries did not help. I am very disappointed, since the OXO cost quite a bit more than the Escali and I'd come to rely on OXO as having high quality products.

One thing I did not like about the OXO before it died was that it would time out faster than I could add things to a casserole dish before baking. So I'd have to turn it back on and re-tare as I added things. Not a huge deal, but less convenient than using the Escali.

The OXO decided to break just before I needed it to weigh my portions at a BBQ. Fortunately I had a Polder spring-loaded scale I could use as a backup. Less accurate, but at least I had some kind of estimate to track.

I ordered an Escali to replace the OXO.

Customer Review: Broken upon arrival!
Summary: 1 Stars

At first I thought it was working. It was never at zero when I 1st turned it on so I would have to zero it out before placing anything on the scale. That should have been my 1st clue that this was going to end badly. I was measuring small amounts of dried herbs. Did seem to be a little inconsistent. The following day I was making a special Sunday meal for my family and the scale would not measure over 7oz It woiuld error and shut off. I did a lot of research and thought this was the scale for me I am very disappointed and I am contacting OXO today because the manual says satisfaction guaranteed (we will see). The size of the scale is nice and the pull out screen works well.Would not recommend this scale!!!!

Customer Review: Took 2 of them back to the store
Summary: 1 Stars

I bought this scale - twice. They both had the same problem. When I was weighing something out gradually, like vegetables that I slice up bit by bit, the display would turn off after a while. It shouldn't do that, because there were only a few seconds delay between putting things on the scale.
But worse, I would press a key to try to get the weight back, and the scale would come back with a weight of 0! Rather than saving the weight as it's supposed to. It didn't matter which key I pressed, the same thing would happen.
Were the batteries low? It should give me a message about low batteries. I didn't try it with my own new batteries, rather than the ones that came with it.

Customer Review: Scale broke after very little use
Summary: 1 Stars

I really liked this scale, ease of use, large capacity. But I bought it in March and the power switch is already broken. I used it only 30-40 times. Very frustrating to have it break so soon. And yes I did replace the batteries. I would not recommend this scale to anyone, unless you want to replace it in 6 months.
