I've had the same experience as D. Simpkin, D. Stanley and Clifford Zimmerman. The plastic tension wheel just disintegrated. I never put this in the dishwasher, it's been handwashed only. There's really no reason for this to have happened except for very poor materials and design. Such a disappointment, as I've loved other Oxo products.Customer Review: Handle is plastic--will break
