I LOVE the OXO hand held mandoline/slicer! I have a large mandoline, but it it awkward to get out of the cupboard, then the box. It is also more difficult to clean.
This little device fits neatly in the drawer along with my other kitchen tools. It is easy to use, has three slicing thicknesses, and rinses clean in no time. It cuts carrots, cabbage (slaw making in nearly effortless), mushrooms, onions and even slightly soft tomatoes. If I were doing a lot of slicing, I'd still pull out the large mandoline or use the slicing blade on my food processor, but when cooking for just the two of us it is perfect. One warning, though; the blade is VERY sharp!!! I've cut myself twice because I was too lazy to get out the guard (call that user error).
