Kitchen and Housewares Reviews of OXO SteeL Garlic Press, StainlessCustomer Review: Recommended Summary: 5 Stars
This is my third garlic press. The last one worked fine until I tried to press a large clove of garlic, and it sprung and I had to fight to get the press out of the little basket. Cuisinart Garlic Press with ABS Handle, Black It didn't work right after that. I don't think that will happen with this press. First of all the chamber for the garlic is large enough to accommodate a large clove or a couple small ones, and since it's one piece, there's no grater basket to worry with. This press has some weight to it and you don't have to baby it for fear of it breaking, just pop in the clove and press as hard as you like. I don't peel the garlic and all that's left over is the skin. To remove that, just flip the handle over and the rubber teeth on the other side will poke the skin up enough to be pulled out. This is a great press and it beats the garlic shredding devices that are on the market now by a long shot. Mario Batali Garlic Slicer
Customer Review: As an Update - Again Summary: 5 Stars
Elwood is right about the minor flaw of the handle sliding. However, I don't put it in the dish washer (which I don't do with most kitchen items). But other than that, this item works great. the heavy large handles make pressing garlic a breeze. And best of all, it is easy to clean with a reverse flip of the handles and running water. We have had it eight months and easily put 4-5 heads through it a week.
As a follow up. the handles are getting worse. I now just slide them off and let it air dry for 10-15 minutes then put it away. I am planning on contacting the manufaturer to see if there is any work around. If there isn't, as much as we use it, I will probably replace it and I will come back and lower my rating.
As an Update - Again
I contacted Oxo and asked them if they had a work around for the handles such filling the handles with epoxy and it had been over a year since I bought it. Well they replied that they were sorry and I just got a new one in the mail. I really like this company.
Customer Review: Best Garlic Press Summary: 5 Stars
This Oxo Stainless Steel Garlic Press is just the best press I've ever used. There may be others that are superior but I have never used them. I've managed to damage or break every garlic press we've ever owned which is why I went searching for a really sturdy one. After browsing the selection on Amazon.com I decided to get the Oxo as it looked to be the most sturdy at a tolerable price point. I must admit it was one of my better decisions on kitchen tools.
It's not 100% anti-me as I've successfully managed to break off 4 of the plastic teeth on the built-in cleaning/clearing pad. the metal parts however show absolutely no sign of wear, stress or fatigue. I pressed some garlic this morning for a spread and it works as well as the day it arrived. To me this means quality. It continues to function and function well, as advertised and shows no signs of giving out now or any time in the future. If for some reason which I can't think of this would ever break I would buy another one without hesitation.
Customer Review: They just don't make 'em like they used to... HOW NICE! Summary: 5 Stars
This is the best garlic press I have ever seen for any price, ever. Fresh garlic makes such a huge difference. I've gone through about five different presses, and all of them had something I didn't like... except this one!
The cleaner is attached so that it won't get lost. This thing is built like a tank.
I never peel my garlic first. I just toss it in, give it a squeeze, then rotate the handle around to pull out the peel. Rinse it right when you use it, and you'll never have to run it through the dishwasher.
I bought this about a year ago when I lost my previous press. My mother-in-law (who has carpel tunnel syndrome) used it, fell in love with it, and bought her own. Now, I'm buying one as a gift for a friend that thinks cooking with fresh garlic is a pain - he's in for a surprise.
This is hands down the easiest to clean, toughest, and best built garlic press on the market. Way to go OXO!
Customer Review: BUY IT NOW Summary: 5 Stars
Ohh Why ohh Why did I not buy this years ago. Worth every last penny. I helps to cut my cooking time, in addition to allowing to have my fingers not smell like garlic from chopping and dicing. Buying this for everyone this years. This is a HomeRun!!!!
Update
This is in constant use in my house. As my life has become busier 2 small children now. I have become more and more inlove with this press I have no time to manually chop garlic. If it wasn't for this I would be using tht store bought garlic in a jar which I hate, just does not have the same flavor to me. This press is also easy to clean.
This product while is still excellent for my needs, may not be good for a real chef. I have noticed that as you press the garlic some of the garlic juices comes out. While that does not bother me it may bother some, so that is something to think about.
