Once you figure out how to use it, this product does really work! The first couple of times I tried it, it didn't go well. The mangos were pretty ripe, I had to push hard, the blade didn't cut through the skin and it made an awful mushy mess. After thinking about it, I did the following: first I cut a bit off the bottom of the mango to ensure that it would sit flat on the cutting board. Then I pushed down as instructed. As with the first couple of times, the blade didn't cut through the skin due to ripeness. This time however, when the mango splitter blade didn't cut throught the mango skin, I stopped. I then took a sharp knife and cut the skin where the blade made an impression. After making the cut, I lined up the splitter to match the cut, pushed, and it cut perfectly. I tried with another mango that wasn't as ripe, and it worked without me having to precut the skin. Customer Review: Really does work

I never used to buy mangos as much but now that I am living in California there appear to be fire sales on them so often it is worth the hassle of preparing them. I saw the Cook's review of this product and decided to give it a try. I didn't even have to cut off the end as they suggested - at least not on this particular mango. I bought this upon America's Test Kitchen recommendation but it only works for small or medium mangos and does not work for larger ones. A good peeler and knife work just fine. Another gadget that's gonna take some space in the kitchen without much benefit.
