When I'm home by myself and I have a bottle that needs to be opened I used to run the lid under hot water. Sometimes it was effective and at other times I still couldn't get the bottle open. Things like maple syrup are a real challenge because they almost glue the cap to the bottle. Now when my husband isn't home to open bottles for me this jar opener works every time. It will open everything from a small water bottle cap to a large pickle jar lid. I'm very happy with this purchase and wouldn't want to live without this very effective jar opener. The reason it works so well is because it has a serrated edge that will dig into plastic and metal lids. Once it grips the lid the jar has no other option but to open. There is also a plastic base pad you put under the jar that holds it against the counter while you turn the opener. Highly Recommended!

This Oxo Good Grips i-Series Jar Opener is the best jar opener I've ever used. I have had mine for over a year and it performs beautifully every time! I had been using mine for awhile before I got curious about why it had a soft plastic disc on it(It helps if one reads the description on the website :-}) I seldom have to use the disc, but it helps a lot when it's needed to keep those runaway jars from slipping.
This Oxo Good Grips i-Series Jar Opener really will open jars of all sizes quickly, and almost effortlessly. I highly recommend it. It's essential if your hands are getting arthritic.

Unless the lid is icy or wet, everything I've tried opens easily. It seemed clumsy the first 2 or 3 times I used it, then I picked up the knack and it's been a breeze since then.
Here's the technique. Put the jar on the non-slip pad. Push the opener against the lid. With the other hand, push down (not too hard, just firmly) on the knob at the top then move the opener like the arrow says.
It even twisted off the faucet aerator on the kitchen sink - which was so jammed that it defied my pliers!

For years I have a struggled to open jars and I've tried out tons of tips, tricks, and gadgets. My search for a solution is over. This jar opener is amazing and makes opening a jar of any size a snap.
I recommend this to all the women in my life (young and old alike) and I've already bought it for a few of them.
Nothing made me feel more helpless and frustrated than being home alone and unable to open a jar. Now all I need is an oxo gadget for opening paint cans and I'll be set!

I have small hands and have difficulty opening large jars. This works great. The opener gives me enough leverage to open big lids I could barely have gotten my hands around (but also works well for small lids) and the nonskid rubber disk makes it possible to easily hold the jar in place on the counter while exerting that leverage. Then the disk neatly attaches to the opener so the two stay together in my kitchen drawer.
