Customer Review: Presto! The jar is ajar!
Summary: 4 Stars

Is your jam lid jammed? Are your pickles in a pickle? Are you holding the mayo just because you can't get it open? Then you need this revolutionary new gizmo from the innovative OXO Good Grips i-series!

The OXO Jar Opener is a sturdy, eight and one-half inch long Y-shaped device filled with a flat piece of stainless steel with sharp teeth along one side. An arrow is carved right into the metal so you'll always know which way to turn when loosening those stubborn lids. A removable non-slip coaster is attached to the steel with a black knob in the center of the Y. The handle is coated with easy-to-grip black rubber, and a hole is cut into the end of it so you can hang the opener on your kitchen wall if you so desire. The device will fit over anything ranging in size from three-quarters of an inch all the way up to four inches, so you can use it on 2-liter soda bottles, giant jars of peanut butter, and everything in between.

To open any jar, just pull the circular pad off of the black knob and place it on the counter. Next, sit the troublesome food container on top of said pad. Place the Good Grips opener on top of the jar and slide it forward as far as it will go. Turn the opener in the direction of the arrow-shaped cut-out while applying forward pressure to insure that those steel teeth are biting the lid as you turn. In most cases, the jar will pop open quite easily, one exception being those soft plastic caps. Occasionally, if you're trying to remove a plastic cap that's on really tight, the teeth will saw a groove into the cap instead of gripping it.

Opening containers with the aid of the OXO Good Grips Jar Opener still requires some degree of effort, but it makes the task a whole lot easier on your hands. This is an essential gadget that no kitchen should be without. It's just too bad it doesn't come in red.

Customer Review: OXO jar opener
Summary: 4 Stars

Not always sure if a product lives up to the advertising, but this one sure does. A boon to anyone who has trouble opening jars. Even though the jar sits on a plastic ring, you still need one good hand to steady the jar and the other one to turn the opener. It has opened everything I asked of it with the exception of a small bottle cap, but that may have been 'operator error'.
