Kitchen and Housewares Reviews of Oxo SteeL Garlic Press, Stainless

Customer Review: Looks great, works fine.
Summary: 4 Stars

This thing definitely has great heft - it feels like it will last forever. It looks beautiful. The rubberized grip feels comfortable. It won't break in the dishwasher. And yes, it will process garlic.

So why only 4 stars? I find the handles to be TOO SHORT. Another 1/2 inch would have made a world of difference to increase the torque you can generate. The hopper is a bit small, holding only 2 cloves of garlic at a time.

I don't understand people who complain about cleanup. It takes me about 5 seconds to get the chunks out before tossing into the dishwasher. One or two rams of the rubber device dislodges the chunks. A 2 second rinse under the faucet and its 95% clean, and the dishwasher handles the rest.

Since I'm a bit of a perfectionist I am upgrading the the very, very highly rated Kuhn Rikon Epicurean Garlic Press. Yes, its $40. No, you don't really need. I just want it.

Customer Review: You will not be disappointed
Summary: 5 Stars

Solid. Sturdy. Does the job well. Cleans very easily. You'll be putting garlic on everything.

Customer Review: Love it!
Summary: 4 Stars

My old Oxo press [a different version] broke, but it had worked so well that I wanted to get another one. This one is even better - and no water in the handles from washing in the dishwasher!

Customer Review: Presses Garlic Like a Champ
Summary: 5 Stars

I've owned my press for over a year and I have never been disappointed with it. I recommend it without hesitation.

PROS:

It is quite hefty, which means it can stand up to the rigors of pressing cloves.

The stainless steel removes garlic odors from your hands. Just rub your hands over the steel parts of the press when rinsing up with water and all of the garlic smell disappears. This alone makes the press worth while.

Easy to clean. The pulp comes through the holes and the left over bits stay behind in the chamber. Flip the press over and the black plastic clears the holes. Lays flat in the dishwasher for good cleaning coverage.

It seems to be well constructed and should last for years.

CONS:

The chamber can only hold 2 largish cloves, so if you have a lot of garlic to press you'll have to do it in batches, cleaning out the leftovers between presses.

If you have small hands you may find you have to do a two handed press as the handles are large. The extra weight, which benefits pressing, may be hard on some.

All in all this is one piece of equipment that works every time without worries. It should last quite a while.

Customer Review: BUY IT NOW
Summary: 5 Stars

Ohh Why ohh Why did I know buy this years ago. Worth every last penny. I helps to cut my cooking time, in addition to allowing to have my fingers not smell like garlic from chopping and dicing. Buying this for everyone this years. This is a HomeRun!!!!
