Kitchen and Housewares Reviews of Oxo SteeL Garlic Press, StainlessCustomer Review: Hefty, hefty, hefty Summary: 4 StarsDefinitely not for those with wrist issues, this garlic press has definitely got some heft to it.
With a smooth lever action, it crushes garlic swiftly and cleanly, all that remains behind is the garlic's 'shell'.
My only complaint is that there is one spot in the deepest part of the press that the garlic shell does get stuck, even with the handy built-in cleaning tool. A quick flick with a finger or a knife solves this issue.
Dishwasher-safe stainless steel and plastic construction is a big plus, less weighty aluminum models will discolor in the dishwasher.
A must for any garlic enthusiast!
Customer Review: A garlic press with no mess Summary: 5 StarsThis press is sturdy, well made, and well finished. Another reviewer has suggested slicing the extruded garlic from the press with a paring knife, and I find this to be excellent when I need ground Garlic. The cleaning feature, applied under a flowing water tap, leaves the tool ready to air dry and put away. This gadget is good enough for the Snap On tool label.
Customer Review: Really heavy, lots of remnants, and impossible to clean. Summary: 3 StarsAt first, when I opened this guy, was impressed with the weight of it alone. After I used it, though, there is an awful lot of garlic that doesn't get pushed through the grid, and then using the built-in mechanism to clear it doesn't really do much either. Through the dishwasher after some coaxing, and the thing still didn't come completely clean.
A garlic press seems like it should be painless. I don't want to think about a garlic press for longer than I am actually using it!
Customer Review: Recommended Summary: 5 StarsThis is my third garlic press. The last one worked fine until I tried to press a large clove of garlic, and it sprung and I had to fight to get the press out of the little basket. Cuisinart Garlic Press with ABS Handle, Black It didn't work right after that. I don't think that will happen with this press. First of all the chamber for the garlic is large enough to accommodate a large clove or a couple small ones, and since it's one piece, there's no grater basket to worry with. This press has some weight to it and you don't have to baby it for fear of it breaking, just pop in the clove and press as hard as you like. I don't peel the garlic and all that's left over is the skin. To remove that, just flip the handle over and the rubber teeth on the other side will poke the skin up enough to be pulled out. This is a great press and it beats the garlic shredding devices that are on the market now by a long shot. Mario Batali Garlic Slicer
Customer Review: Perfectly Perfect Summary: 5 StarsI cannot believe I have lived without this garlic press for so long. This is a wonderful tool. It fits my hand perfectly and the box for the garlic clove is large enough for jumbo garlic. A quick press on the handles (excellent for stress reduction too) produces perfectly pressed garlic. My last garlic press extruded some moisture a little bit of garlic. I then had to dig the mess out of a too small area. Not so with this amazing gizmo.
The only thing left to clean up with this tool is the thin shell of the garlic clove. It was easy to extract because of the large size of the "box." It cleaned up beautifully.
I find myself doubling the amount of garlic called for in recipes just because it is so satifying to use this baby.
